Ringing in 2013. On our donut phones.

Hey! Happy New Year!

What am I doing? I’m SO authentic I’m writing this post after midnight. I’ve just taken a little break from blogging  so now I have too much to say, oops. First off, if you are reading me for the first time, welcome :) .

So, after kissing and hugging and wishing my family a Happy New Year, I went straight to my pc, hopped onto social media to send some greetings and then started blogging. Says a lot about my general life priorities right there…

Recap of significant milestones, 2012:

The Old Girl at My Feet. What we were used to.

Both my children started new schools (while my husband was away on business). My Miss-almost-6 started primary school and Mr13 began secondary school. This time last year I was a quivering wreck about it all; there were a few last minute changes and dicey heart-in-mouth moments so I thought I might just implode from nerves. I wish I could have jumped ahead in time and gently told myself that it would all be okay. Hard to believe when your youngest is the only child to run out of the building on morning one. Hard to believe when your naïve eldest (with additional needs) is thrown into the deep end of regular high school after the safety of primary school. It has been quite a bumpy and exhausting year- no denying- but we’ve more than survived it, we’ve done better than imagined.

We lived through months of an excruciating demolition and the building of THREE townhouses a few metres from our bedrooms.

We had a rodent invasion (thanks to the derelict demolition), a landlord in denial and a health scare for my boy’s foot that rendered me sleepless and shredded for a week.

My darling shadow dog of over sixteen years left us in April. I am only used to this months later. Her bed and bowl stay where I can see them from my kitchen window, until we move in a few months. It just has to be this way.

I was honoured to be invited to be part of the fabulous team of five who established and started up Autism In Our Own Words. Cannot tell you enough how proud and humbled I am at the response we’ve received, the community we’ve built, the support it gives our readers (and we to each other). I love these ladies. When I think we only started in April this year, with all we’ve achieved it’s hard to believe it was such a short time ago.

I realised a lifelong dream in October and visited New York with my husband. We stayed in a SoHo apartment for 9 nights and lived the lifestyle, everything at our doorstep. We saw most of my dream destinations and even hit Broadway. I’m yet to blog it, so stay tuned. Some of the pics are awesome. I keep looking at them to believe it all really happened. It was all I hoped it would be and I can’t wait to go back! It was a bit too easy to get used to. I knew it would take some readjustment to homelife on return (understatement). Two weeks after we got home, Hurricane/ Storm Sandy hit and many of the places we’d just been were either under water or at a standstill. It was eerie.

I am the mother of a teen. Yipe.

I’ve suddenly developed two creases between my eyebrows. (See the two points above.) :/

I blogged and Instagrammed every single day of November. I did it!

I’ve been chosen to be part of the merry IBOT team- thrilled! Can’t wait to get to know you :)

2013 will finally bring hard earned rewards.

MOST significantly, the house (saga) that has sucked up years of our lives and thousands upon thousands of our dollars is finally coming within grasp. Lock-up stage this month; we hope to be in by midyear. Gosh darn, our patience deserves to be rewarded!!

My blog is long overdue for a kick-arse makeover. She shall get one. She’ll be so alluring and cheeky you simply won’t be able to resist her charms :P

I will blog, read and spread my writing and social wings more. I will undertake more self-dares. I will be braver.

How about you?
